IS ITALY NEXT TO OFFER THE GOLDEN VISA?
At present time, there is no golden visa program in place for real estate investors in Italy.
Permanent residency in Italy is available, however applicants must show a minimum yearly income of €100,000. If the applicant is making a significant property investment, this criterion is decreased to €35,000. The value is unknown, but we believe it to be in the range of €300,000 to €500,000.
The Italian residence program differs significantly from Portugal’s and Spain’s Golden Visa program, as well as Malta’s and Cyprus’ Citizenship by Investment program. There is no necessity to dwell and become a tax resident in certain European nations, no minimum stay, and clearly specified program criteria.
Italy announced a new program in 2017, known as the “Investor Visa for Italy.” This initiative is for citizens of non-EU countries who want to invest or donate in Italy. The minimal criterion can be one of the following:
- €2,000,000 in government bonds;
- €1,000,000 in a loan to an Italian limited company;
- €1,000,000 in philanthropic donations;
- €500,000 in an inventive start-up
